General Information
The Twin City Youth Football Association consists of four different divisions:
- Wingback Division - Boys and girls ages 5 & 6
- Tailback Division - Boys and girls ages 7 & 8
- Quarterback Division - Boys and girls ages 9 & 10
- Halfback Division - Boys and girls ages 11 & 12
Though the association is based in Festus Missouri, there is no geographical restriction. Boys and girls from anywhere can join the league and participate in the games.
Generally speaking, the tackle football season starts in mid July with registration, football camp, weekly practice and equipment handout and ends in mid-November with the year-end banquet. Please refer to the current calendar for the specific dates for this season.
Conference rules (please click to review) dictate the organization and method of play.
Registration
In order to play football, each player must be registered. Registration takes place in mid to late July (check the current calendar for specific dates). Each player is required to register and pay the registration fee prior to attending practices. At the time of payment, each player is issued 60 $1 raffle tickets. The player/parents can sell the tickets to friends, neighbors and relatives and can keep the proceeds. If all 60 tickets are sold, the $60 offsets the registration fee. A raffle will be held early in the season and prizes are awarded to raffle ticket winners. Those who purchase tickets can win cash prizes of up to $500.00.
Families that register multiple siblings will receive a slightly discounted registration fee on the additional children. The first player must pay the standard registration fee. The second player is $20 less than the registration fee and each subsequent player in a family is $40 less than the registration fee.
In 2012, the registration fee will be $160 per player for the 5/6 division (educational). It will be $190 for all other players.
The registration fee pays for a player’s inclusion in the league. Each registered player will be issued equipment for the season including a helmet, shoulder pads, waist pads, and pant pads. Each player will also be issued a uniform consisting of a jersey with his/her name and number on the back, pants, and socks. Players may keep their uniforms. Equipment must be returned at the end of the season.
Registration can be completed at many of the league events including football camp and practice. The only form of payments accepted are cash, checks, or Pay Pal. Unfortunately, we do not have the capability to accept payment via credit or debit cards.
Football Camp
Football camp is held in mid July at Sunset Park in Festus, Missouri. The camp is free and requires no registration. Camp lasts three evenings for two hours (see current calendar for specific dates), weather permitting.
Campers are split into four age groups and learn basic football skills. Participation in camp does not require a player to register for the league.
No equipment is worn during camp and therefore camp does not include tackling.
Football Practice
General practice sessions begin in the week following camp. Before the draft, players practice by age group. After the draft, the players are assigned to teams and team practices begin. Practices occur each Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, weather permitting. Some coaches may hold extra practices on Wednesday or Saturday before the games begin. Check with your coach for details.
A player may not participate in contact during practice until he/she has picked up equipment. Additionally, a player will not be allowed to participate in contact practice or games without his/her own protective mouthpiece.
Equipment
Once a player has registered, he/she can pick up equipment (check the current calendar for specific dates and locations).
The following equipment is issued and must be returned at the end of the season. A $100 equipment deposit will be required. The deposit should be in the form of a check. The check will NOT be cashed; it will be returned when the equipment is returned.
- Helmet
- Shoulder pads
- Pads that are inserted into the pants
In addition to the above set of equipment, a player must provide his/her own:
- Protective mouthpiece ( required )
- Chin strap ( required )
- Protective athletic cup ( required for boys )
- Rubber football cleats ( recommended )
- Practice jerseys ( recommended )
- Practice football pants ( recommended )
Games
Games begin in late August (check the current calendar for specific dates and the current schedule for your team’s actual schedule and game locations) and are played each Saturday throughout mid-November.
Games are played at various times and locations. Consult your team’s schedule to find out the date, time and location of each game. The locations are mapped in the Field Locations tab.
All teams participate in the playoffs at the end of the season where the goal is to win the Super Bowl.
Please note that all spectators present at any JCYFA game are governed by the Spectator Code of Conduct.
Banquet
The season concludes in mid-November with the annual banquet. Players and their families are encouraged to attend. Tickets must be purchased to attend the banquet which include dinner and an awards ceremony.
Cheerleading
The league offers Cheerleading to boys and girls ages 5-13. Practice is held during tackle football practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays. More information is available under the Cheerleading tab.
